A Bucharest funnel is a ceramic instrument used in laboratories, also made of plastic, for filtration using vacuum or negative pressure suction. While the inventor is generally credited to Edward Buechner, who won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1907, the Buchner funnel was actually invented by chemist Ernst Buchner.
The shape is flat cylindrical, the bottom of the cylinder opened a lot of holes. It is connected to a long and narrow tube outlet.
To use, a filter paper is usually placed on the bottom of the cylinder, and the funnel is inserted into the opening above the Brewers flask and the interface is sealed (e.g. with a rubber ring). The side mouth of the Beaker is connected with the suction system. The mixture of solid and liquid to be separated is then poured into the top, and the liquid component is pumped into the beaker under negative pressure, leaving the solid at the top.

Before use, it is necessary to prepare suction and filtration equipment, such as vacuum pump, suction bottle, Bucharest funnel holder (sealing ring), vacuum tube (rubber tube), filter paper, Bucharest funnel, etc.
First, wet the filter paper with water and pump it so that the filter paper is close to the bottom of the funnel, which can prevent the things to be filtered from missing. Pour in the filtrate, turn on the machine to pump, you can stir it a little bit, only the filtered material is left.
Direct use of ordinary funnel, affixed with filter paper, connected to the suction pump for filtration (instead of Bucharest funnel) is not. Because the four walls of the funnel are close to the filter paper, the negative pressure suction filter has no effect on it. The pressure difference is only at the bottom corner of the funnel. Because the mouth is large and has only one mouth, it is easy to rupture. (Wet filter paper is not strong)
